The Astronomical Clock of Prague

So many elements and ideas come together in what is basically a portrait of a multi century spanning, mechanical monolith. The broad scope of this monument is founded on a not entirely unique function. It, like many other town clocks and astronomical devices found throughout Renaissance Europe, served as necessary tools for townspeople. Such an undertaking took generations to complete and in the process was re-contextualized, amalgamated and like some alchemical process, transmuted into something unexpected. The tower took on physical alterations, additions and subtractions often reflecting its benefactors, technicians and artisans. In doing so, legends and myths were formed that are still not entirely understood.
